Engineered Hardwood Floors
Just like solid hardwood flooring, engineered wood flooring is real wood. With quality engineered wood flooring, the top veneer layer, which we call the wear layer, is usually the same thickness as solid hardwood flooring. Meaning, engineered wood flooring can be sanded and refinished as many times as solid hardwood.
The difference between solid and engineered is in the construction of the plank. Engineered flooring is made up of multiple layers of wood running opposing directions. The result is a more stable flooring when considering flooring options for certain climates, or certain areas of the home where moisture could be a potential issue. Areas like a basement, over concrete, or over radiant heating is where engineered wood flooring excels. In general, our engineered flooring can offer clients a much wider plank in more species of wood.
A properly installed and cared for wood floor, whether its solid or engineered, has a lifespan that exceeds 100 years. No other flooring option can be sanded and refinished multiple times or allow the homeowner to change the appearance and color of their interior. Real wood floors are the only flooring option that add significant value to the price of a home. A survey of realtors around the country showed that 99% say its easier for them to sell a home with real wood floors, and 82% said the homes sell faster. 90% say they see home values with real wood floors increase by 10%. Realtors also noted that refinishing wood floors prior to selling recovers 100% of the project cost.
Wood floors today are designed to withstand the heavy traffic of a busy household including children and pets. Species of wood are rated for hardness and durability using the Janka Scale. With the proper combination of wood species as well as the proper finish, you can choose a durable real wood floor that easily fits your lifestyle. Real wood flooring is the only flooring option that can truly last a lifetime.
